At the start of each academic year, our members vote on the PRNs they would be most interested in joining. The PRNs are geared toward student interests and provide a unique opportunity for students to learn more about a specific pharmacy specialty.  Currently, we have three PRNs: Critical Care, Infectious Disease, and Psychiatry. Each PRN is required to meet at least once in the fall and spring.

Infectious Disease PRN

Advisor: Dr. Bavin Mistry, Pharm.D., BCPS: Infectious Disease Pharmacotherapy Specialist
Chair: Elizabeth Legros

Our first Infectious Disease PRN meeting was this fall, and student attendance was fantastic! Dr. Mistry spoke about why he chose to do a residency and specifically went into infectious disease. He also discussed his career at Akron General Medical Center and what his job entails. We are looking forward to our spring meeting and are planning to invite an HIV pharmacist to be our speaker.

Psychiatry PRN

Advisor: Dr. Sara Dugan, Pharm.D.: Pharmacy Practice Specialist
Chair: Nick Selle

Due to its popularity, our Psychiatry PRN has been continued from last year, and our first meeting was held this fall. Dr. Dugan gave a topic discussion on bipolar disorder and also answered questions about a career in psychiatric pharmacy. We look forward to meeting again this spring!

Critical Care PRN

Advisor: Dr. Dawn Miller, Pharm.D., BCPS: Critical Care Pharmacist
Chair: Mackenzie Horning

Our first Critical Care PRN meeting was held this fall and was attended. Dr. Miller talked about the role of the critical care pharmacist and discussed how best APPE students can excel while on critical care rotations. Students in attendance were able to review a student case presentation, learning not only about critical care topics but how best to put a quality case presentation together. We look forward to our spring meeting!

Thank you to all of our clinical advisors!
